Arrival by Air & Rail

For those flying in from further afield, Zurich Airport (ZRH) is the undisputed favourite, roughly 2 hours (120 km) from our door. Innsbruck (INN), Munich (MUC), Memmingen (FMM) and Friedrichshafen (FDH) are also excellent Alpine jump-off points. Once you land or if you are already travelling by rail, the choice is yours:

  • The Arlberg Express: This is a direct shuttle that collects you at the Zurich (ZRH) terminal and delivers you straight to Lech am Arlberg.
  • The Rail & Bus Combination: Direct trains from Zurich, Innsbruck or Munich deliver you to the mountain railway stations of Langen am Arlberg or St. Anton am Arlberg. From there, the yellow Postbus chauffeurs you the final 20 minutes into the heart of the village. It is efficient, scenic and environmentally friendly.
  • Private VIP TransferFor maximum comfort and a door to door experience, we can organise a private pickup directly from the terminal or the train station with our trusted local partners.
Arrival by Car | Why the Satnav Fibs

Driving to Lech is a scenic experience, but the mountains have their own rules. Important travel note: In winter, the L198 road between Warth and Lech is strictly closed. If your GPS tries to route you via Warth ignore it. That path ends at a locked barrier in a snowdrift. Always check the Current Road Report for Vorarlberg before you start the engine.

  • Winter Tyre Law: From 1st November to 15th April, winter tyres are mandatory in Austria. Snow chains in the boot are like an umbrella: you hope you won’t need them, but they are absolute life-savers on the Flexen- and Arlberg Sass.
  • Parking & EV Charging: Your car can sleep in our underground garage (free in summer, fee in winter). For your Tesla or Audi e-tron, we provide EV charging stations directly at Hotel Lech.

Unique by Nature | Questions, Answered

Reaching Lech am Arlberg requires a basic understanding of alpine geography. Hotel Lech and Residenz Chesa Rosa in Vorarlberg Austria are located at 1450 metres in Dorf 263, slightly elevated above the village centre. This position creates a rare balance between proximity and calm within what is widely regarded as the best ski resort in Europe. The Ski Arlberg lifts at Rüfikopf and Schlegelkopf in the centre of Lech am Arlberg are reached within a leisurely five minute walk, while the house itself remains quietly set above the main village with open views towards the Omeshorn and the surrounding panorama of the Alps.

International access to the Austrian Alps is well established. Zurich Airport, Innsbruck, Munich even Memmingen serve as the primary gateways, followed by rail connections to Langen am Arlberg or St Anton am Arlberg. From there, the final approach continues by Postbus, private transfer, or taxi, with a travel time of approximately fifteen minutes into the heart of the Arlberg. Direct shuttle connections such as the Arlberg Express provide a seamless transfer from the airport terminal to the hotel door.

Arriving by car through the Alps requires attention to seasonal conditions. During winter, the L198 road between Lech and Warth is closed, making access via the Flexen Pass and Arlberg Pass essential. Winter tyres are mandatory, and carrying snow chains is a sensible precaution when crossing the higher sections of the Austrian Alps. Upon arrival, vehicles are accommodated in the underground garage with access to EV charging, allowing the focus to shift entirely to the mountain rhythm.

For generations the Wingelmayr family has guided arrivals into the Arlberg mountains, ensuring that even first time visitors to the Alps reach Lech am Arlberg with clarity and confidence. The result is a journey into the best ski resort in Europe that becomes part of the experience rather than an obstacle. Unique by nature. Distinctly Lech.

Refining. For you.
Big things are underway.

A new website. A new logo. Fully refurbished rooms.
2026 is taking shape.

Things are being taken apart, drilled into, rebuilt. Then built again. And yes, even hung.
A complete revamp of nine rooms.

Oak floors. Underfloor heating. Colour.
Wingi’s design, with a touch of mischief.

Which also means the house remains unfortunately closed this summer.

We are, however, very much here. Always.
For bookings. For questions. For a lovely conversation, gladly. A phone call always works. Emails too.

As soon as the last craftsman has packed up and the snow settles and stays, the doors open again.
Most likely blissfully free of construction debris by then.

UNIQUE BY NATURE. DISTINCLTY LECH.
