Discover your artistic side at the Arlberg Massif
Art and culture in Lech in Arlberg, Austria
Every year sculpting days and painting weeks take place in Lech at the Arlberg Massif as part of the cultural events of the “Art Summer”.
The sculpting days in Lech celebrate their sixth anniversary in 2010 and the painting week Lech is held for the 17th time – two highlights of the “Art Summer Lech” 2010. The famous artist Mag. Hermann Böhm will offer an insight into his artistic work and teach visual arts in theory and practice from July 18th to 24th and from August 9th to 14th. A similar opportunity is open to you during Mag. Edda Mally's water colour seminar “Painting in a Mountain Environment”. Capture the enchanting mountain scenery of the Arlberg massif on canvas!

Horizon Field by Antony Gormley
The Arlberg Massif is the setting for a gigantic art installation from the Englishman Antony Gormley one of the most influential sculptors. In his work Antony Gormley approaches the issue of the human being and its relationship to society and nature. He will remain true to himself at the Arlberg Massif – a project such as his has never been realised in the entire Alpine region at such an altitude. Horizon Field is a field of 100 life sized iron casts of a human body installed at an altitude of 2,039 metres above sea level.
Although the figures stand facing each other, not a single one is looking at its counterpart. It is possible to see at least one work of art from all vantage points, which stand at a distance from 100 metres to several kilometres, depending on the topographic conditions. From some places it is possible to see a great number of figures. The eye level of all 100 figures will be carefully adjusted so that all 100 figures form a perfect horizon in the Alpine region.
Art you can touch in Lech at the Arlberg Massif
For the duration of the installation – from July 2010 to June 2011 – you will certainly encounter one or two works of art by Antony Gormley when you are exploring the hiking region of the Arlberg Massif.
